To achieve the greatest health we all desire, we need all these elements: mind and body. A healthy mind leads to a healthy body and a healthy life, period. We have to put the days of neglecting one or both of these two behind us because in many cases, the consequences are catastrophic.

Making sure you put the right nutrients in your body allows your mind to function at its best and serve you well.

Some examples of key nutrients you should be consuming on a regular basis include raw, unprocessed plant-based oils such as flax oil, coconut oil, cod liver oil and hemp oil. These oils have been credited with fighting cancer, boosting the immune system and cleansing the body.

Other great power foods that help promote good health include raspberry, pomegranate, cranberry and blueberry. They are high in antioxidants that promote and enable greater blood flow and healing in the body, in addition to improving skin and promoting weight loss through a healthy metabolism.

Take a major step forward in achieving good health with the following suggestions:

  • Grains: wild rice, brown rice, rice pasta, quinoa and oats are great additions to your diet
  • Reduce dairy consumption every day – yogurt, milk in coffee or tea, cheese. This would be too much dairy for one day. Try goat’s cheese and milk or rice milk instead
  • Eat proteins like poultry, beans and legumes, fermented soy products, almonds and cashews
  • Eat lots of leafy green vegetables such as lettuce, cucumbers, parsley, cabbage, and asparagus

Make it a priority to learn one new thing each week about the benefits of certain nutrients. Not knowing enough about what we ingest and put into our bodies is as bad as driving down the street with a blindfold – both are an accident waiting to happen.

Know what good fats versus bad fats are. Know what amino acids are and how they relate to your body. Know your body type, your deficiencies and your strengths. If you have an imbalance, be informed about it. Hire a trainer, see a physiotherapist, chiropractor or dietitian – get whatever help you need to make informed choices that boost your health.
