Myths of Personal Training

Think of a personal trainer in terms of your car mechanic. Would you take your own car into your garage and take it apart, piece by piece, all by yourself, just because you watched a show on TV imagethat told you how and what to do? Most of us would never think of doing this to our cars, but it’s exactly what we do with our health and bodies all too often.

Most of us take lots of chances with our health that we would not ordinarily take with material possessions like electronics and cars, even though your health is the one thing you can’t replace. A trainer helps you protect your investment in your health. They are like the manual that comes with your computer, when you buy it from a store. Your trainers tells you what you need to know to reach maximum health and wellness.

When it comes to your own state of health, one size definitely does not fit all. A good personal trainer will evaluate your body type, your goals, your background and your attitude to help you formulate the best way to achieve your goals and objectives faster. Health, wellness, and exercising aren’t one size fits all. Thinking that something someone is good for you just because it works for someone else, or you saw it on TV can be detrimental or even catastrophic in some cases.

As a personal trainer, I give my clients structure, guidance, proper form and
technique, and excellent personalized nutritional programs suited to their unique needs. Every person possesses has a different body type, and therefore I believe the approach to each person should be unique.

It’s important to keep these ideas in mind when you are hiring a personal trainer:

  • Does the person live what they preach?
  • Do they look the role?
  • Do you have a referral from one of their previous clients?
  • Have you spent time watching the trainer’sinteraction with their clients?
  • Does he/she listen to their clients and demonstrate the proper form, or does he/she just like to hear themselves talk?

When it comes to hiring a trainer, be sure to make an informed decision. This is an important purchase. You are asking someone to teach, inform and educate you about creating a whole new and confident person. Make sure they are suited to your needs, the same way you would make sure that a big purchase such as a new car will suit your needs.
